FOXBOROUGH, Mass. Stephen Strasburg Jersey . -- Tom Brady looks just fine. His fans and teammates are relieved. The key to the success of the New England Patriots participated fully in the teams walkthrough Thursday. He jogged with other players at the start. He dropped back normally to throw passes. And he didnt limp. An alarming situation -- he had left Wednesdays practice with an apparent left knee injury -- was just a false alarm. "Im good," was all Brady told waiting media members as he walked off the practice field Thursday after removing the black brace he wore during the workout. "You can all go home." Then, after signing some autographs and posing for pictures, the star quarterback walked back into Gillette Stadium where he may or may not play in Friday nights exhibition game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Patriots coach Bill Belichick didnt speak with reporters after the third and final day of joint practices with the Buccaneers. Brady was knocked down by left tackle Nate Solder after releasing a pass midway through Wednesdays session. Solder had been pushed into Brady by Buccaneers defensive end Adrian Clayborn. A person with knowledge of the situation said Brady sprained his left knee and an MRI was negative. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the Patriots did not make an announcement about Bradys health. But players knew quickly that their two-time league MVP was OK. "Right after practice, actually. We got the news pretty quick," running back Stevan Ridley said. "It was a scary moment, but really, with Tom, I know hes a competitor and hes going to do whatever to get him out there. Im just glad they took him out, checked him out and made sure he was good. So ... my hearts at peace knowing that hes OK and knowing that nothing majors going on." Brady suffered a season-ending injury to the same knee in the 2008 opener but hasnt missed a game since that year. "Thats our leader, man," Ridley said. "We ride with Tom Brady all the way and anytime you see somebody go down like that, kind of everything stops in front of you. But, for us, we just have to move on and hope for the best and thats what we did and we found out later that day at team meetings that he was OK and that was all the news that we needed to know, that our quarterback was going to be with us." For a while, with no information coming out, fans wondered if Brady was hurt badly. Many of them expressed their concerns on Twitter. "I think there were a lot of fans at home probably pulling out their hair," safety Devin McCourty said. It was a big story until reports surfaced that the injury wasnt serious. "I think you guys had more communication and more opinions than we did," McCourty told reporters. "We actually got to see him in the locker room and all that, so it wasnt as crazy as, I think, the media made it seem." Solder even had a restful night, despite his role. "I didnt let it affect my sleep," he said. "Its part of the game." The brace Brady wore Thursday was heavier than the one he had on a day earlier and similar to what he wears in games. He moved smoothly through the slow-speed walkthrough. During a hurry-up drill, Brady dropped back and completed two passes to tight end Zach Sudfeld and one to Aaron Dobson against minimal coverage. There was no sign that his knee was hindering him. After practice, he spent about a half hour on the field with his wife, supermodel Gisele Bundchen, their son Benjamin, 3, and Bradys son Jack, with actress Bridget Moynahan. He turns 6 on Wednesday. She threw a pass to her husband. He ran with his children. Jack threw the ball to her. Then Brady walked the length of the field and past the cameras and reporters, with a football tucked under his left arm and a steady stride. Belichick will decide whether he plays on Friday night. Its only an exhibition game, but Ridley said it matters whether Brady plays or not. "Its all a different ballgame when Bradys in the game," Ridley said. "I think it matters for everybody whos watching sports as well as the team thats out there on the field." Howie Kendrick Jersey . "It doesnt get any better than that," Giambi said. "Im speechless." The Indians are roaring toward October. Giambi belted a two-run, pinch-hit homer with two outs in the ninth inning to give Cleveland a shocking 5-4 win over the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday night, keeping the Indians up with the lead pack in the AL wild-card race. TORONTO -- The Toronto Maple Leafs signed No. Cheap Nike Free Authentic . 1 overall draft pick Auston Matthews to a three-year, entry-level contract Thursday with the maximum bonuses allowed.Matthews had 24 goals and 22 assists in 36 games last season for the Zurich Lions in Switzerland and had nine points for the United States at the world hockey championship. The 18-year-old from Scottsdale, Arizona, immediately became the face of the Maple Leafs franchise when they selected him first in last months draft. General manager Lou Lamoriello typically refuses to give bonuses to rookies, but agent Pat Brisson confirmed that Matthews deal includes the maximum entry-level salary of $925,000 per year plus potential bonuses that could add up to an average annual value of $3,775,000.There were no issues at all getting it done with Lou and the Leafs, Brisson said. Auston is thrilled.Lamoriello agreed. The agreement took place within, I would say, 10 minutes of the first conversation Pat Brisson and I had when we talked about Austons contract, he said. Auston was No. 1 overall. The agreement that he has with the Toronto Maple Leafs and his contract, hes earned this. He deserves what he is getting and there was never a question from us on this. While Matthews has star quality, Lamoriello said the young forward will be part of the team.To be a Leaf is you have to give up your own identity at times to have success, he said.At a recent camp, Matthews got a glimpse of the fan base eager for the Leafs to return to the NHLs elite. They packed the arena and fans waited outside after the game for all the prospects, he said. It was pretty cool to kind of get a taste of how big this fan base is and how passionate they are. So its pretty awesome.Matthews says he will spend most of the summer at home in Arizona, preparing for the season and the World Cup of Hockey, where he will play for the North American under-23 team in September. Also Thursday, the Leafs signed 23-year-old forward Josh Leivo to a two-year contract. WASHINGTON -- Two big innings were enough for the Washington Nationals to overcome the Atlanta Braves and top prospect Dansby Swansons inside-the-park home run Tuesday night. Rollie Fingers Jersey .Pinch-runner Michael A. Taylor scored the go-ahead run on catcher Tyler Flowers throwing error as part of a three-run eighth inning as the Nationals defeated Atlanta 9-7.Youve got to believe and think it and everybody was believing, Nationals manager Dusty Baker said. The power of positive thinking goes a long way, especially in this game. That brought the crowd back into the game.Washington had a five-run third inning for the second consecutive night. We just sometimes cant stay away from that crooked number in one inning, Atlanta interim manager Brian Snitker said.Taylor pinch-ran after Braves reliever Jose Ramirez (2-2) walked Ryan Zimmerman. Taylor stole second and, after Danny Espinosas walk, scored when an off-balance Flowers threw pinch-hitter Ben Reveres bunt attempt well to the left of third baseman Adonis Garcia.I knew if I got my hand on it, it had to be quick, Flowers said. When I went through it all in my head, I imagined it being a little more accurate in my head before it happened. Its a do-or-die play. The game is essentially on the line. I tried to be an athlete and it just didnt work out.Trea Turner then hit a two-run single for Washington, which beat Atlanta for the 13th time in 15 meetings this season.Koda Glover (2-0) retired the only two batters he faced to earn the victory, while Mark Melancon got his 39th save in 42 opportunities.Washington used seven relievers, who combined to retire 17 of the 20 batters they faced. They did a great job tonight, Zimmerman said. Theyve done a really great job all year long, coming into games and keeping us where were at. Theyre not an easy team to pitch to.Nationals right fielder Bryce Harper secured his first career 20 homer-20 steal season with a stolen base in the seventh.Swanson, the 2015 overall No. 1 draft pick, hit an inside-the-park home run in the second inning. The shortstop lined a pitch from Gio Gonzalez over Turner and high off the fence in center field, 399 feet away. The ball caromed toward the infield, and Swanson slid home headfirst, easily beating the throw from Harper. It was his first career home run.Swanson, who made his big league debut Aug. 17, entered the game hitting .236 with four RBI in 55 at-bats. Atlantas previous inside-the-park home run was by Wes Helms on Oct. 7, 2001.It was one of those things where I thought it was going to be my first triple, Swanson said. Then as I kept going, judging by the reaction in the dugout and the crowd, I thought `Maybe Ill get an inside-the-parker. I just kept going.Swansons homer gave Atlanta a 3-1 lead, and the Braves added another run in the third on Freddie Freemans RBI single. But Washington blasted starter Williams Perez in the third inning, collecting three singles before Rendon launched an 0-2 pitch to left for his first career grand slam. Zimmerman chased Perez two batters later with a solo homer.Perez allowed six runs in 2 1/3 innings. Gonzalez didnt fare much better, allowing six runs in three innings.STREAKS CONTINUEOF Ender Inciarte singled twice to extend his hitting streak to 17 games, two shy of his career high. Freeman pushed his hitting streak to 13 games with a single.TRAINERS ROOMBraves: RHP Matt Wisler (sore side) played catch a day after he missed his scheduled start Snitker said Wisler would likely need a couple of side sessions before returning to the rotation.Nationals: Washington recalled INF Wilmer Difo and RHP Lucas Giolito from Triple-A Syracuse. Difo hit .257 with five RBI in 35 at-bats in earlier stints with the Nationals, while Giolito is 0-1 with a 5.63 ERA in four starts in the majors.UP NEXTBraves: RHP Mike Foltynewicz (8-5, 4.31) starts the series finale for Atlanta. Foltynewicz earned a victory in his only previous start this year against Washington, allowing four runs in 5 2/3 innings on Aug. 12.Nationals: Strasburg (15-4, 3.59) will return from the DL and start Wednesday. OAKLAND, Calif. Cheap Saucony Shoes Store . -- Mark Jackson will not be a lame duck coach next season. The Golden State Warriors picked up the option on Jacksons contract for the 2014-15 season on Wednesday. While both sides could still work out a long-term extension this summer, exercising the option at least ensures Jackson wont enter the upcoming season with an expiring contract. The Warriors also announced the hiring of 11-year NBA veteran Brian Scalabrine as an assistant coach and promoted Joe Boylan from video scout to assistant coach overseeing player development. Pete Myers, who is already on staff, is expected to be the lead assistant after Mike Malone left to be the Sacramento Kings head coach. Darren Erman and Jerry DeGregorio also remain on Jacksons staff. Warriors general manager Bob Myers said last month that he has had informal discussions with Jacksons agent, Arn Tellem, about an extension for the coach and didnt anticipate contentious negotiations. Tellem was Myers long-time mentor at the Wasserman Media Group before Myers moved into the Warriors front office two years ago. Jackson, who doubles as an ordained minister, has said all along that his contract situation will "work itself out." "I trust in God. Im in the best hands possible, and I dont mean Arn Tellem," he quipped after the season ended in May. Jacksons job certainly seems secure. He took the Warriors from a 23-43 record during the lockout-shortened season his first year to a 47-35 team that earned the Western Conferences sixth seed and eliminated Denver in the first round of the playoffs. The eventual conference champion San Antonio Spurs knocked Golden State out in six games in the second round. The Warriors posted the second-highest winning percentage improvement behind Brooklyn. Golden State also is positioned for more success with point guard Stephen Curry anchoring a collection of promising young talent, and Jackson has so far found a way to blend them all together. The former New York Knicks and Indiana Pacers point guard, among others, had worked as a broadcaster before joining the Warriors on June 6, 2011, with no coaching experience at any level. Jackson has emphasized defence and rebounding -- two areas where Golden State had historically been weak -- during his tenure. The Warriors have improved drastically in several of those categories, including opponents field goal percentage (fourth in NBA last season; 20th in 2011-12), opponents 3-point percentage (seventh last season; 28th in 2011-12), defensive rebounding (first last season; 24th in 2011-12) and rebounds per game (third last season; 28th in 2011-12). And more than $1 billion in deals will likely be hammered out in the next couple of days alone.Free agency has returned to the NBA, and this July 1 is unlike any other.Sure, theres the annual list of superstars who could take their talents elsewhere -- Kevin Durant will hear sales pitches designed to talk him into leaving Oklahoma City, Dwyane Wade is prepared to leave Miami if he doesnt get a deal to his liking, and it seems LeBron James will make the Cleveland Cavaliers dig even more deeply into their pockets to reward him for the citys first NBA title. All this comes with a backdrop of an enormous jump in the salary cap, going from $70 million this past season to likely somewhere close to $95 million when the league announces the actual number early next week.So the spending will be out of control. Thats for certain.Just about everything else is uncertain, starting with Durants status. My message to him is just try to get through this, dont make a decision based off anybody else, make your own decision, New York Knicks forward and Durants Olympic teammate Carmelo Anthony said. Because at the end of the day, youre the one that has to live with that.Durant, true to his nature, is tight-lipped about how his decision-making process will actually work.Ill factor in everything thats important to me, which is playing basketball at the end of the day, and well see what happens, Durant said.Durant plans on going to New York -- not to play, but to deliberate. Some teams have been granted invites to meet with Durant in the New York area this weekend, and Miami center Hassan Whiteside is planning to meet with teams there as well on Friday. Theres been no indication how quickly Durant will reveal if hes staying with the Thunder or moving on, but in Whitesides case the answer could come on Day 1.Im not calm. Look at me. Woooo! Whiteside shrieked earlier this week in Miami, when he talked about the looming decision that will take him from someone who made just under $1 million this past season -- pocket change by NBA standards -- to quite probably more than $20 million in each of the next four seasons. Cheap Saucony Running Shoes. Im excited, man. Cmon, man. Free agency time.Whiteside will strike it rich without going to a single All-Star Game first. Bismack Biyombo (who made $2.8 million this season and is expected to at least quintuple that going forward) will probably do the same, and that comes with him not even having been a full-time starter in Toronto. This is the new NBA.And its not changing. The cap will take another giant leap next season, too. Basketball Hall of Famer Gary Payton stopped playing less than a decade ago; he made about as much in his entire career as Whiteside will likely make in the contract he can sign starting July 7.Payton equates free agency today to a lottery, with a lot of sweepstakes winners. Some of these players, they make decisions because of all of the money, he said. Youre going to get the money. I think you go to a place where youre going to be successful and have a chance to win ... always be in the competition to win a championship.Payton could have made so much more money now, but hes far from upset about it. He even says a player like James should be making about $50 million now, given what hes done and what he means to the league.I got on my mom about that the other day and asked her why she had me so early, Payton said. It is what it is. Its a different era. I was in the best era. I liked my era. We started all this.Because theres never been a market like this, given all the new cap room, it seems like no one really knows what to expect. That includes the Commissioner of the NBA.As Ive said, there will be unintended consequences from all this additional cap room this summer, Adam Silver said at the All-Star Game back in February. I just dont know what those consequences will be.Starting at 12:01 a.m. Eastern time Friday, when the shopping window officially opens, the league will begin finding out.Its not so much about the things you want, Thunder general manager Sam Presti said. Its about the things that are made available to you.---AP Basketball Writer Brian Mahoney in New York contributed to this report. ' ' '
STOCKHOLM, Sweden -- Canada took advantage of overtaxed Sweden for a 3-0 win at the IIHF World Championship on Thursday, and felt they should have done more damage. Cheap Nike Air Max Shoes China . "We didnt finish some opportunities wed like to finish that could have put them down early in the first," Canadian coach Lindy Ruff observed following the game. "Youre thinking boy, we left a lot on the table." Buffalo Sabres goaltender Jhonas Enroth robbed Canadians on several excellent looks in the first two periods. It was Canadian Mike Smiths turn for heroics in the third. The Phoenix Coyotes goalie stopped 17 shots in the period en route to a 33-save shutout and his first win of the tournament. "If not for their goalie, we would have won about seven or eight nothing, I think," forward Matt Duchene said. "We had a great performance in goal by Smitty and we had a lot of chances." Steven Stamkos of the Tampa Bay Lightning, Philadelphia Flyers defenceman Luke Schenn and Carolina Hurricanes Jordan Staal scored goals in the first two periods for Canada. Matt Read of the Flyers had two assists in front of an announced sellout of 12,500 at the Globe Arena. Canada (3-0-1) vaulted over Sweden into second spot in the Stockholm pool. Unbeaten Switzerland led with 11 points followed by Canada with 10 and the Swedes with nine. Norway was fourth with six. Canada faces Belarus (1-2) on Friday for a second game in as many days. The Czech Republic (1-2-1) got by Denmark 2-1 in a shootout, but remained fifth in the Stockholm pool with five points. France shocked Russia 2-1 in the Helsinki pool with Antoine Roussel of the Dallas Stars scored winning goal in the second period. The Russians remained tied with the United States for first at nine points each. Finland was second with eight points ahead of France and Slovakia tied with six apiece. Latvia downed the Slovaks 5-3 on Thursday. The top four teams in each pool of eight qualify for the quarter-finals in each city. Canada lost quarter-final games the last three years at the world championship despite finishing first in its group the last two. Ranked No. 4 in the world, Sweden was No. 5 Canadas highest-ranked opponent yet. The Swedes were getting their feet back under them with three wins after an opening loss to the Swiss. But after beating Norway 5-1 the previous day, the Swedes were slow to get into the game against Canada. The Canadian attack poked holes in their defence and left Enroth exposed several times. "Canada won this game, in my opinion, a little bit too easy," Swedish coach Par Marts said. "It could be the game yesterday, I dont know. "But I dont see that we competed with them and if youre going to compete with that good team youre going to need as close to 100 per cent from every player. I didnt see that today." The Swedish fans grew restless during the game and there were boos in the final minutes Canadas special teams were integral in the victory Thursday. The Canadians scored first with a power-play goal by Stamkos and held the Swedes scoreless on three chances with an extra attacker. The Canadian power play was an unimpressive 14 per cent going into the game, but that first goal was a work of art. Justin Schultz, Brian Campbell and Claude Giroux snapped the puck around the offensive zone with precision and Stamkos finished it with a one-timer from his right knee. Enroth foiled Stamkos, Duchene, Taylor Hall and Eric Staal on juicy opportunities even strength in the first period. After 22 saves on 25 shots, Enroth was replaced with just under 10 minutes remaining in the third period by Jacob Markstrom, because of dehydration. Ruff coached Enroth in Buffalo until the Sabres fired the Canadian coach in February. "I thought he was fabulous," Ruff said of the Swede. Canada had just three practices prior to this tournament because the NHLs lockout-shortened regular season ended three weeks later than usual. The team took another step forward in its adjustment to the wider, international ice Thursday. Staal scored his first goal of the tournament on odd-man rush with Ryan OReilly of the Colorado Avalanche. "Ive been fighting the puck a little bit the first few games," Staal, the younger brother of Canadian captain Eric Staal. "Its always nice to chip in and get that big insurance goal for our team." Reads feed from the opposite boards to Schenn in full stride off the blue-line resulted in Canadas second goal of the game. Some people call it rebuilding, and some people prefer to call it tanking. Cheap Jordans From China . Either way, the process is familiar, and the Cubs just demonstrated how well it can work out. As counterintuitive as it might seem, theres something exciting, something appealing about the notion of tearing things down and starting almost from scratch.Nobody wants to end up in a position where a team thinks about initiating a rebuild. From the perspective of a fan or an executive, the priority is always to win sooner than later, and for rebuilding teams the picture can be bleak. Giving up is never an easy thing to stomach, but reassurance comes from having a long-term plan. It can even feel better to track the development of promising youngsters even while a big league team takes loss after loss.At this moment, there are a few teams in the midst of their own rebuilds. The Atlanta Braves clearly started a few years ago, and they feel like theyve already been through the worst. The Philadelphia Phillies, Cincinnati Reds, Milwaukee Brewers and San Diego Padres are at various stages of their own reconstructions. What other rebuild candidates are there? What sort of rebuilding might they be able to do? Ive identified four teams that might soon elect to blow it all up. One of them could even start at any minute. The team that could start rebuilding the soonest is also the team that could have the most to gain. The Chicago White Sox have spent a few years trying to push forward with a quality core and a thin supporting cast. They could very well try that again, but it looks increasingly likely that the Sox could sell off their bigger pieces. How far they might go would be up to the front office, but if GM Rick Hahn wants to, he could be the center of the MLB offseason. The White Sox wouldnt gain much if they just sold, say, Melky Cabrera, Todd Frazier and David Robertson. Cabreras contract is underwater. Frazier is in his last year before free agency, and Robertson is due another $25 million over two years as a second-tier closer. Even Jose Abreu might fetch just a modest return; hes close to 30 years old, hes about to get expensive, and hes coming off his worst season. Moving them alone wouldnt significantly help Chicago stock up its farm system. To get there, the White Sox would have to really commit. If they were to commit, just imagine: Chris Sale could go. Jose Quintana could go. Adam Eaton could go. Even Nate Jones could go. Sale is under club control through 2019, Quintana through 2020, Eaton through 2021 and Jones might be as well, depending on a contract technicality. The fact that theyre all under affordable long-term control makes them appealing for Chicago, but it also makes them appealing to the whole baseball landscape. Every team could use those players. Sale is an ace, Quintana might as well be one, Eaton has turned into a star outfielder, and Jones is an underrated, dominant set-up man. ATLANTA -- First baseman Freddie Freeman and pitcher Julio Teheran are the only core players left after the Atlanta Braves two-year teardown and rebuild for the future. Custom Kansas City Royals Jerseys .Freeman has been labeled as untouchable from the start. Teheran has virtually gained the same status. The Braves could sell high on Teheran, but general manager John Coppolella has been adamant recently that the team plans to hold on to the 25-year-old staff ace despite continuing trade rumors.Teheran takes a 23-inning scoreless streak into his start Friday night against the Miami Marlins (41-38) and has a 2.46 ERA. He is second among major league starters with a WHIP of 0.89.When you start looking at All-Star pitchers, he is one, Braves interim manager Brian Snitker said. The only thing there is his one-loss record and he cant control that with all that goes on. Hes been about as good as you can get.Teheran, given almost no offensive support, is 3-7 and has yet to record a victory at Turner Field. The right-hander is 0-4 in nine home starts despite a 2.80 ERA.The Braves (27-52) have scored two runs or fewer while Teheran was on the mound in 12 of his 16 starts. One of Teherans home losses came against the Marlins, who had lost five straight to the Braves before winning 7-3 on May 29. Atlanta leads the series 7-2 after an 8-5 victory Thursday.Teheran, 5-3 with a 2.87 ERA in 13 career starts against the Marlins, gave up five hits and three runs over 5 1/3 innings in that game, but has been on a roll since.Teherans scoreless stretch, which includes a one-hitter against the New York Mets, is the longest active streak in the National League and the longest by an Atlanta starter in a single season since Paul Maholm went 25 1/3 innings in 2013.The streak comes with the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline just a month away, but Teheran has been able to concentrate only on his work at hand.I dont think about it, but I hear about it because there are a lot of comments, he said of the trade rumors. I just focus on what Ive been doing because this is the best Ive been feeling during my career. The Marlins and Braves were active on the trade front Thursday.Miami, already strong at the back of the bullpen with A.J. Ramos, obtained veteran closer Fernando Rodney from San Diego in exchange for pitching prospect Chris Paddack.Rodney, 39, was 17-for-17 in save opportunities in his first year with the Padres and had a 0.31 ERA in 28 appearances. He is expected to join the Marlins on Friday. Were able to shorten the game, thats for sure, manager Don Mattingly said of Rodneys addition. Weve been able to shorten it, in our minds, already. Now, it just makes it even shorter.Ramos is 24-for-24 in save opportunities this year and has converted a team-record 33 in a row dating back to last season.Right now, until we have a chance to talk to Fernando, theres nothing I want to talk about role-wise publicly, Mattingly said. I think we look at it as we just added a guy who has been rolling this year. The Braves trade was a multi-player deal for prospects that sent veteran right-hander Bud Norris, who was 2-1 with a 2.15 ERA in his last five starts, to the Los Angeles Dodgers.I hate to see Bud go, Braves interim manager Brian Snitker. The Dodgers are getting a hot pitcher.Norris, 31, was 3-7 with a 4.22 ERA in 22 games (10 startes) after being signed as a free agent in the offseason for $2.5 million. The deal leaves the Braves in need of starter for Saturday, with a promotion from Triple-A likely. WASHINGTON -- Add two fresh entries to the increasingly popular genre of non-apology apologies. In a span of 15 hours, politician Donald Trump and Olympian Ryan Lochte both coughed up carefully crafted words of contrition -- each without fully owning up to exactly what hed done wrong.Trump, the serial insulter of the 2016 presidential campaign, said hed sometimes said the wrong thing and acknowledged that his words had caused personal pain.Lochte, the gold medal-winning swimmer, said he should have been more careful and candid in describing an incident during the Rio Olympics in which he claimed to have been the victim of an armed robbery that police said wasnt really an armed robbery at all. What both are trying to do is take a topic out of the news and turn the page, said Kathleen Hall Jamieson, director of the Annenberg Public Policy Center at the University of Pennsylvania and an expert in the politics of rhetoric. Neither one of them has done it in the classic form required of an apology. These days, laments Wayne Fields, a professor who studies political rhetoric at Washington University in St. Louis, popular culture is churning out apologies that really suggest the problem is with you -- not me -- or the problem is with circumstances that I cant control. Its essentially, `Im sorry you dont understand me, said Fields, calling it part of the phenomenon of the public relations apology.Heres a closer look at Trump, Lochte, and the delicate politics of contrition:---TRUMPAs you know, Im not a politician. Ive worked in business, created a great company, created lots of jobs, rebuilding neighborhoods, thats what Ive done all of my adult life. Ive never wanted to learn the language of the insiders. And Ive never been politically correct. ... Truthfully, it takes far too much time and can often make it more difficult to achieve total victory. Sometimes, in the heat of debate and speaking on a multitude of issues, you dont choose the right words or you say the wrong thing. I have done that. And, believe it or not, I regret it. And I do regret it, particularly where it may have caused personal pain. Too much is at stake for us to be consumed with these issues. But one thing I can promise you is this, I will always tell you the truth.---Trumps remarks, read from a teleprompter during a speech Thursday night, were part of an effort to reset a campaign thats slipped in the polls and lacking direction as the candidate picks one distracting fight after another. The candidate who in the past has declared he prefers not to regret anything apparently made the calculus that a little remorse would be good for the soul -- and his campaign.Linguists found several things lacking in Trumps blanket mea culpa, starting with specifics about what he did wrong and to whom. Also, his contrition was prefaced by a litany of self-congratulatory statements designed to puff himself up and lessen the humbling aspects of his regrets. Further, Trump managed to suggest that part of the problem somehow rested with those who felt injured by his remarks. Finally, his declaration that hell continue to tell the truth suggested maybe he didnt really regret what hed said at all.Robin Lakoff, a retired linguistics professor at the University of California, Berkeley, says Trumps underlying message was: If you have to have this politically correct expression of regret, Ill give it to you, but really, youre the one in the wrong. ... Donald Trump is being magnanimous to the poor, sick person.Jamieson, listing some of those targeted by Trumps verbal volleys, added: The question is to whom is he apologizing? Is this an apology to Megyn Kelly? Is this an apology to Johnn McCain? Is this an apology to the Khan family? Is this an apology to Hillary Clinton?Fields, for his part, said Trumps bottom line seemed to be: If this is what I need to do to win, sure, Ill apologize. Brian Flynn Jersey. ---LOCHTEI want to apologize for my behavior last weekend -- for not being more careful and candid in how I described the events of that early morning and for my role in taking the focus away from the many athletes fulfilling their dreams of participating in the Olympics. I waited to share these thoughts until it was confirmed that the legal situation was addressed and it was clear that my teammates would be arriving home safely. Its traumatic to be out late with your friends in a foreign country -- with a language barrier -- and have a stranger point a gun at you and demand money to let you leave, but regardless of the behavior of anyone else that night, I should have been much more responsible in how I handled myself and for that am sorry to my teammates, my fans, my fellow competitors, my sponsors, and the hosts of this great event. I am very proud to represent my country in Olympic competition and this was a situation that could and should have been avoided. I accept responsibility for my role in this happening and have learned some valuable lessons.I am grateful for my USA Swimming teammates and the USOC, and appreciate all of the efforts of the IOC, the Rio `16 Host Committee, and the people of Brazil who welcomed us to Rio and worked so hard to make sure that these Olympic Games provided a lifetime of great new memories. There has already been too much said and too many valuable resources dedicated to what happened last weekend, so I hope we spend our time celebrating the great stories and performances of these Games and look ahead to celebrating future successes.---Lochtes statement, posted on his Instagram account Friday, was designed to quell the global firestorm that erupted after his claims about being the victim of an armed robbery outraged his Brazilian hosts and were sharply disputed by that nations police. The Olympic gold medalist, who initially said hed been robbed at gunpoint, held to his view that a stranger pointed a gun at him and demanded money. But Brazilian police said he and three other swimmers vandalized a gas station bathroom while drunk and were confronted by armed security guards.Lochte does explicitly say hes apologizing. But linguists note that as with Trump, hes fuzzy about what exactly hes sorry for. Theres no admission that he didnt tell the truth or of any attempt at a cover-up. He throws out factors designed to mitigate blame: he was far from home, he didnt speak the language. He makes reference to the behavior of others, suggesting hes not the only one blame. He works in prominent mention of the Olympic Games, where he brought home gold. And he makes the case its time to change the subject. Its one of those mistakes-were-made apologies, Fields said. It doesnt take full responsibility. The key unanswered question, Jamieson said, is Did you lie to us?Lakoff credits Lochte for sounding truly penitent, but said he still manages to work the apology thing around to `Look at how wonderful I am with all his talk about the successes at the Rio Games.---Overall, Lakoff said, Trump and Lochte offered two different ways of weaseling out of making a true apology. These are both masterly ways of talking out of one corner of your mouth but indirectly implying something else out of the other, he said.---Follow Nancy Benac on Twitter at: http://twitter.com/nbenac ' ' '
LOS ANGELES -- Vinny Del Negro is out as coach of the Los Angeles Clippers after a season in which the team won its first division title but lost in the first round of the playoffs. Puma Basket Baratas . The team said Tuesday he wont be offered a contract when his current one expires at the end of June. He is just the second coach to leave the team with a winning record, following Larry Brown in 1993. "This was a difficult decision, but we feel this is the best decision for our franchise moving forward," said Gary Sacks, vice-president of basketball operations. Del Negro had a 128-102 regular-season record in three years with the team. The Clippers made the playoffs the last two seasons, including last year when they advanced to the second round for only the second time since the franchise moved to Los Angeles in 1984. This season, the team won a franchise-record 56 games, including a 17-game winning streak. And with All-Stars Chris Paul and Blake Griffin, the Clippers were one of the NBAs most exciting attractions, with acrobatic dunks and dazzling playmaking. But the post-season was quick and disappointing -- an exit in six games to Memphis despite a 2-0 lead. "We would like to thank Vinny for everything he did during his three years with the organization," Sacks said. "Vinny helped this team win a Pacific Division title and we greatly appreciate all that he and his staff helped us accomplish." The search for a new coach will begin immediately. Del Negro had the highest winning percentage (.557) for a coach in the clubs beleaguered history. He is the only coach to have consecutive winning seasons since the Buffalo Braves moved to California and became the Clippers in 1978. The Clippers had just six winning seasons in their first 41 years. Now theyve put together consecutive winning records and playoff appearances for the first time in 20 years. "Weve set every franchise record," Del Negro said two weeks ago. "So Im proud of a lot of things we did." Much of the credit for the dramatic turnaround went to Paul and Griffin. Del Negro was criticized at times this season for his rotations, and there was speculation about whether he would return. Paul and Griffin have been supportive of their coach, and two weeks ago Sacks acknowledged that the players opinions would be part of the decision on Del Negro. "I think Vinny did a great job of managing the egos and taking this team to a new level," veteran Matt Barnes said after his exit interview at the end of the season. Del Negro had said he enjoyed working with Paul and Griffin. "Theyre the nucleus of the team, obviously, that you want to keep intact and move forward with," he said. Sacks made it clear that the teams top priority is to re-sign Paul, who becomes an unrestricted free agent July 1. He could receive a five-year, $108 million deal. Del Negro came to the Clippers from the Chicago Bulls, where the 46-year-old coach went 82-82 in two seasons including back-to-back playoff appearances before being fired. Before that, Del Negro had front-office roles with Phoenix from 2006-08. He previously worked as a broadcaster for the Suns and San Antonio. He played in the NBA for 12 years. ATLANTA -- Top-seeded John Isner and second-seeded Kevin Anderson set up what Atlanta Open officials will be the "tallest" final in ATP Tour history. The 6-foot-10 Isner beat Lleyton Hewitt 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (5) on Saturday, and the 6-8 Anderson topped American Ryan Harrison 6-3, 7-6 (3) in the night semifinal. Isner is 5-3 as a pro against Anderson, and they played several times before that. "Weve been playing each other since, I think the first time was the fall of 2005 (when Isner was at the University of Georgia and Anderson at Illinois)," Anderson said. "We both serve quite well. ... I definitely think there have been times when the success hes had has pushed me to do well." Isner lost in the Atlanta finals in 2010 and 2011 to fellow American Mardy Fish. "Its my third final here, and I would certainly like to win it but Im not putting any extra pressure on myself," Isner said. Isner took the first set against Hewitt, winning 88 per cent of all points on first serve and 68 per cent on second. Ther American had 10 of his 21 aces after ringing up 50 in his first two matches of the tournament. "My weapon is my serve," Isner said after breaking the Australian with a cross-court forehand to end the set. "His weapon is his return so it was a fun match." Hewitt, the former world No. 1, began figuring out the booming serves and spinners, and broke Isner twice to win the second set. "He anticipates so well," Isner said after moving to 2-4 against Hewitt. "Hes not one of those guys that goes back to the fence and (waits for hard serves). Its similar to (No. 1 Novak) Djokavic. He just absorbs 140 mph serves from me. If I dont hitt my spot, its coming back. Zapatillas Puma Baratas. " Hewitt was not available after the match because he and countryman Chris Guccione were resting for a late doubles semifinal match against Britons Colin Fleming and Jonathan Marray. In the third set, the players stayed on serve until the tiebreaker, but not without scares. At 3-3, Isner fought off triple service break with five straight service winners. "It doesnt look good for me if I go down a break 4-3 in the third," Isner said. "That was a huge game, massive game, and . . . saved the match for me." He also survived a break before going up 6-5. Isner took leads of 3-0 and 4-1 in the tiebreaker. Hewitt clawed back to 5-5 with one more serve. After returning it, Isner moved forward. That had not worked well earlier as hed bumped several short Hewitt volleys back into the net. But the big guy didnt want to bang balls back and forth. A defensive backhand slice went hard left beyond Hewitts to put Isner up 6-5. "A guy like (Hewitt), chances are hes not going to tighten up and make a loose mistake. And hes better than me from the baseline," Isner said. "At that moment, I was a little bit tired . . . and I wanted to play that point aggressively." When Hewitt sent Isners next serve far wide right, the American pushed his ATP-best tiebreaker mark to 24-6 while Hewitt fell to 5-6. In the only Isner-Anderson match this year, Isner won in straight sets in February in Delray Beach, Fla. The second-seeded Anderson, from South Africa, is ranked No. 21 in the world, and will move into the top 20 with a win. Isner is No. 22 with a chance to pass Sam Querry (20) as the highest-ranked American with a win. ' ' '
Promoter Eddie Hearn believes he could sign a deal as early as next week that would see?Anthony Joshua fight Wladimir Klitschko, most probably on Dec. J.J. Hardy Jersey . 10.The heavyweight division has been thrown into flux since Joshuas fellow Briton Tyson Fury pulled out of fighting Klitschko on Oct. 29 and then tested positive for cocaine.Fury has claimed he is suffering from mental health problems but looks set to be stripped of his WBA and WBO world titles, and Ukrainian Klitschko (64-4, 53 KOs) has had to make alternative plans for his next fight.Hearn is confident that talks with Klitschkos manager Bernd Boente will be successfully concluded next week and will see the former champion challenge IBF world heavyweight title-holder Joshua (17-0, 17 KOs). Hearn hopes that either the WBA or WBO belts will also be on the line.Next week for sure, we are getting very close, Hearn said.We were going to announce our opponent last week but opportunities have arisen and you have to get everything right with a fight of this magnitude.Fingers crossed we will have some good news next week that will blow your mind. Joshua is contracted to Showtime while Klitschko has a deal with rival US broadcaster HBO.If its Wladimir Klitschko it could be pushed into December, Hearn said. Were not going to get a deal done until next week and then you are talking about six weeks until Nov. 26. Haye, the former WBA champion who has had two fights this year following a four-year absence, announced last week his next fight would also be on Dec. 10.And Klitschkos camp has also reserved the Barclaycard Arena in Hamburg for Dec. 10 to ensure that he fights before the end of 2016 after Fury twice pulled out of facing him this year.Klitschko is looking to win back one or more of the three titles he lost after his nine-year reign as world champion was ended by a shock points loss to Fury last November.Joshua, 26, won the IBF title from Charles Martin in April and then stopped another American Dominic Breazeale in his first defence in June.
